It’s been nearly a year since Lego confirmed that it would be releasing a Voltron Ideas set, but we finally have a release date: Lego Voltron will be ready to defend the universe on August 1, 2018!
A limited supply will also be available at San Diego Comic-Con, if you’re lucky enough to be going and quick enough to get one.
With over 2,321 pieces, this impressive set goes beyond my wildest dreams. It features all five lions—black, red, green, yellow, and blue—which can be built and posed separately. They can also be transformed to combine into a giant Voltron that stands over 15 inches tall. Voltron’s sword and shield complete the set. (*quintessence not included)
This Voltron design is based on the original 1980s TV series and features detailed touches that bring the Lion Force to life. Once combined to form Voltron, the head, shoulders, arms, and wrists are posable (the legs are not). The hands will hold the sword and shield, letting Voltron recreate your favorite action scenes.
Growing up in the 1980s, Voltron was a big part of my childhood. I watched the show obsessively and, over the course of a few holidays and birthdays, collected all five lions and the Castle of Lions play set. Of all the childhood toys I wish I’d kept, my Voltron set is at the very top.
Just as the new Voltron: Legendary Defender Netflix series has (in my opinion) been an upgrade on the original TV show, Lego Voltron will be an upgrade on my original set of lions. Lego + Voltron = a dream come true.
August 1 can’t come soon enough!
