Top 20 Collectables from Star Wars The Phantom Menace
Today, unbelievably, marks the TWENTIETH anniversary of Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace. Love it or hate it there is no denying that the merchandise and advertising was fantastic. I’ll never forget walking in to a Wal-Mart and seeing this toy isle completely decked out in Star Wars! My grandparents bought me five items and I still have all but one to this day! Darth Maul, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon 3.75” figures, The Comm Talk, Darth Maul Costume set w/ Lightsaber.
To celebrate I wanted to throw a list together of my favorite Collectibles from The Phantom Menace. Here is the list of the Top 20 Star Wars The Phantom Menace collectibles from 1999!
Before we start I want to throw in an honorable mention from 2019. The Habsro 20th Anniversary Obi-Wan and Darth Maul figures. Legendary card backs!
#20. Vanity Fair Magazine
After a very long Star Wars drought we finally get our first taste of the new Star Wars! I had the Obi-Wan and Maul spread on my wall as a child. This is what started my absolute obsession with Darth Maul!
#19. PEPSI Advertising
IT WAS EVERYWHERE! I didn’t matter where you went. If there was PEPSI there was Star Wars. I didn’t know anyone that didn’t collect the cans and the R2-D2 cooler goes for a pretty penny online.
#18. Jabb Glob
Despite the over grossness of the concept the figure is actually very well done. Also, in 1999 the grossness of this was perfect for a young BP.
#17. The 8” Watto Figure w/Datapad!
You can practically here the Toydarian say “No, they won’t-a. What? You think you’re some kind of Jedi, waving your hand around like that? I’m a Toydarian, mind tricks don’t work on me. Only money. No money, no parts, no deal!” This figure looks great out of the box but he barely stands on his on.
#16. Queen Amidala “1999 Portrait Edition” Figure
The face sculpt and outfit details are some of the best I have seen out side of Hot Toys.
#15. The Movie Poster
Absolute perfection. That’s all.
#14. N64 Star Wars Episode 1 Racer Game
20 years ago I was blown away! I played it recently and it doesn’t exactly hold up but it’s a cool piece and the nostalgia is real!
#13. The 12” TC-14 figure
The first droid we get to see since The Return of the Jedi! Looks great in and out of the box!
#12. The 12” Electronic C3PO
If you were a fan of Threepio in the Original Trilogy you had this figure.
#11. Fast Food Toys
KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut killed the game with the greatest movie promotion deal of all time. Fight me. It was a frenzy to get them all. I may or may not have had them all….
#10. Fast Food Advertising
Yes, boxes and adverts. Look at them and tell me that you wouldn’t display them.
#9. Fast Food Cup Toppers
These were released by weekly and it was so much fun trying to get them all! Again, I may or may not have had all of them….
#8. Darth Maul Inflatable Chair
There was a time when inflatable furniture was a thing. Gladly that has passed. However, we did get this gem out of it!
#7 The 12” Darth Maul & Sith Speeder
A must have for any Darth Maul collector.
#6. Applause Collectibles Line
10” Darth Maul, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Queen Amidala figures. Cost effective collectors pieces!
Literally anything LEGO for Episode 1 is a banger!
#4. The Lightsabers!
Sweet Christmas the lightsabers! Qui-Gon, Darth Maul and Obi-Wan gave us three iconic sabers!
#3. Star Wars Episode 1 Electronic Naboo Royal Starship Blockade Cruiser Playset
This one was way out of my price range but its an awesome set! You can find them online starting at $320.
#2. The Power of the Force Mace Windu Mail Away figure
This was our first glimpse of Mace Windu and a through back with the mail away promotion.
#1. The 3.75” Figure line
Iconic card backs. Go to any comic con and these figures are instantly recognized. Single figures, two packs, three packs, scene sets, vehicles, ships, everything! This figure line started my collecting habit. Forever cherished!
Did I miss you that you feel should be on the list? Let me know!
