Warner Bros. has previously confirmed that there will be a Joker origin movie staring Joaquin Phoenix, and now they have assigned the movie an official release date.
October 4th, 2019.
Pinning Todd Phillips as director, the stand alone DC film will have a budget of around $55million and be named simply enough- JOKER. Phillips, best known for directing comedy hits Old School and The Hangover, also co-wrote the script with Scott Silver, and has stated that he looks to create a gritty character study that is also a broad cautionary tale.
Beginning production later in 2018, Joker will allegedly not tie in to the greater DC film franchise, as Jared Leto’s Joker character from the Suicide Squad movie is still planned for further use and inclusion in other films.
How confusing will it be to have TWO Jokers featured in movies around the same time? Will one outshine the other? Are DC/Warner Brothers just asking for trouble with this?
No idea.. but stay tuned as we find out the answers over the next year.
