The Uncanny Nerf Herder crew spent three unbelievable days at Star Wars Celebration Chicago. We were fortunate enough to win the lotteries to see the Episode IX, Jedi Fallen Order, Galaxies Edge and Vader Immortal panels. We were able to meet the Emperor, Ian McDiarmid, Enfys Nest, Erin Kellyman, and one of the motion capture pioneers Ahmed Best a.k.a Jar Jar Binks.
Ill never forget sharing those experiences with The Uncanny Nerf Herder crew and learning how to play Sabaac in our hotel room. The show floor was an absolute Star Wars buffet of toys, merchandise, ships, props and cosplay! You can check out our videos from the show floor here.
Unfortunately, we had to leave Saturday night but if you know the weather/airport situation on Sunday perhaps we were fortunate to leave when we did. We are obviously excited for The Rise of the Skywalker but we are the most excited for Jon Favreau’s upcoming Disney+ series The Mandalorian!
While we still do not know a lot about the story, we were given some interesting bits and bobs! We learned that The Mandalorian first episode will be available at the launch of Disney+ streaming service November 12th, 2019. The first season will have eight episodes, but we don’t know if we will be able to binge them all in one shot or if it will be a slow drip. Personally, I would love a weekly Star Wars show!
What we know
The Mandalorian will be played by Game of Thrones and Narcos alum Padro Pascal (much to my wife’s delight). He travels the outer reaches of the galaxy alone, far away from the laws of the New Republic.
We will see Former MMA star and actress Gina Carano as Cara Dune. She is an ex-Rebel Shock and is having a difficult time assimilating back into society after the war and destruction of the Empire.
Carl F’n Weathers as Greef Cargo is the head of a guild of bounty hunters. “He’s a guy who’s running this group of bounty hunters. He’s kind of the head of this guild of bounty hunters,” said Weathers. “He’s looking for someone to go after a product that he wants to bring back to a client that’s very valuable and guess who he finds? He finds a bounty hunter named Mandalorian. He figures he can get the job done.”
If you watched the panel at Star Wars Celebration, you got to see just how passionate Jon Favreau is about Star Wars and this project. Then you combine that with Dave Filoni, Deborah Chow, Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard and Taika Waititi you know that this is going to be epic.
Bits and Bobs
Needing extras for the show Dave Filoni has the brilliant idea to include the fans! The invited members of the legendary 501sttroopers to join the show. How amazing is that?!
They are using some stories from the Extended Universe to incorporate into the story which should delight some of the hardcore Star Wars fans.
The series is set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens before the rise of the First Order. Favreau said. “This idea of the Empire falling, the revolution is successful, but…then what happens? Because if you look throughout history, it’s fun at first, but it gets very complicated very quickly. You have only the strong surviving and you have chaos taking over in the galaxy.”
The Mandalorian’s ship is named “The Razorcrest”. Many of the shots were done using miniatures instead of CGI giving it that vintage Star Wars feeling.
